Southern Grind GranDaddy Machete 10.75" Stonewashed 8670M Carbon Blade
The GranDaddy is part monster fixed blade and part maneuverable machete in a very lightweight package. Its size of course puts it into the clearing brush category and the thin, approximately 0.10" blade slices through thin twigs and branches with ease. The blade steel and grind are what make using it as a survival type knife possible. Near the base of the blade is hardened above 60 Rockwell so it will hold and edge there for splitting, slicing, chopping, etc. Toward the tip, the steel is hardened less so it's not brittle during batoning and can be sharpened more easily. The Micarta handle fills the hand well and is ideal for use with gloves but does not provide a lot of traction. The sheath is what sets this knife apart from all the rest. It's not a typical drop in sheath, it's more of a sideways click in design, making secure carry without a retention strap possible without affecting deployment speed. It's made from durable Kydex with a belt clip and leg retention strap. Try a GranDaddy out for yourself and you will go out of your way to find things to chop.
